Steel Sculptures

Steel School Sculptures

You will see from the images that trees are a favourite with schools to have as a symbol of learning and growth etc, and we like them, because it gives opportunity for pupils to get involved by making the leaves. We use 2mm steel wire, and designs are drawn so that the wire can be bent to fit the lines of the drawing. The wires are stuck down, and then we press the wire into mirror stainless sheet steel to make a relief pattern. This is a method we use often in other work too.

We also sometimes use straws - the children make their design in straws, and we translate the designs into metal rods - time consuming, but the result works really well for panels in a fence, for instance.

But of course the sculpture might be anything, and this is where the consultation is so important.

We are lucky that Pete is an engineer and he can do all the stress calculations etc suitable for sculptures, and he can do CAD drawings for laser cutting as necessary.
